The popularity of Huawei and Apple phones is rising in China

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Mobile phones from Huawei and Apple have gained share in the Chinese market for the second quarter of 2020.

Quoted from Reuters on Friday, Huawei sent 40.2 million devices in China in the second quarter of this year or 8 percent more than the same period last year.

Market share (market share) Huawei in China is currently at 44 percent.

While Apple, in a manner year on year grew 35 percent by selling 7.7 million units. Apple’s market share in China is 8.5 percent.

In general, cellphone shipments in China fell 7 percent compared to 2019, this year’s total shipments of 97.6 million units.

This decline shows consumers in China are tightening their spending and delaying buying mobile phones, even though the country’s economy is recovering after quarantining the region due to the corona virus pandemic.

Canalys mobile industry research institute said nearly half of the cellphones shipped in China were 5G phones.

In the second quarter 39 million 5G units were sold or 260 percent more than the previous quarter.

Canalys analyst Louis Liu explained that Chinese local brands lead 5G penetration and support cellular operators to migrate 4G users to 5G. The 5G customers there in July exceeded 100 million.

“Huawei wants to become a 5G brand in China, their 5G portfolio exceeds 60 percent of total shipments in the second quarter,” Liu said.

Meanwhile, shipments of other local brand mobile phones, namely Vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi, each dropped by 13 percent, 19 percent and 19 percent.
