French confidence in government may be low during health crisis linked to the coronavirus, but the popularity of the Prime Minister is skyrocketing. And this since April, as revealed by the latest dashboard of Ifop-Fiducial personalities for Paris Match and Sud Radio, released this Tuesday. After gaining ten points of positive opinion in April, Edouard Philippe gains four again at the start of May.
He won a total of 57% favorable opinions and placed in second position behind Nicolas Hulot. In detail, the head of government seduces 6 out of 10 retirees and he manages to overcome the right-left divide, since he gains 5 points on the left (50%) and 9 among the Republicans (69%).
Ministers in poorer shape
In contrast, Emmanuel Macron has “only” 48% favorable opinions, although he still wins two points at the start of the month. Within the government, the ministers seem more divisive than Edouard Philippe.
The Minister of Health Olivier Véran stands at 40% of positive opinions (-40% after a significant increase in April), the Minister of Education loses 4 points and expects 36% of favorable opinions. The Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly loses 7 points, Sébastien Lecornu 4 points, Marlène Schiappa loses 3 and Bruno Le Maire only one. Government spokesperson Sibeth Ndiaye loses 2 points and is in last place in the ranking.
