The Office suite has been with us for more than 30 years. And even though it’s a strong brand, Microsoft has announced its gradual retirement into the background. It started two years ago when he renamed the Office 365 service to Microsoft 365. The next phase of the transformation will take place next month.
Everything will be Microsoft 365
Over the next few months, Office.com and the Office app for all mobile and desktop systems will be renamed Microsoft 365 and will receive a brand new icon, look and functionality.
The Microsoft 365 package will host Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Loop, Clipchamp and Stream applications and services, and the new application will be Microsoft Designer. Both the mobile and desktop apps become a kind of signage, as well as offering a summary of your colleagues’ news, a meeting list, and quick access to recently opened files and documents.
The Office brand is not completely disappearing yet – we will continue to see it on one-time licenses not tied to a subscription, namely the Office 2021 package and the Office LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) plan. However, the question remains how long these one-time licenses will be offered.
