The Pontevedra city council hopes to sign the purchase of the Santa Clara convent in October | Radio Pontevedra

The Council of Pontevedra would have to pay the Poor Clares between 471,000 and 542,000 euros to buy the 7 historical elements that remain inside the convent of Santa Clara, and that are not part of the sale price of the facilities.

We are talking about the Main Altarpiece, two side altarpieces, the altarpiece of Our Lady, a pulpit, 25 choir chairs and an organ. This is the amount collected in the technical appraisal carried out by the professor at the University of Santiago Juan Monterroso.

With this appraisal, the City Council has already started the administrative file to proceed in the coming months to the final signature of the purchase of Santa Clara. An operation that it will cost the Council 3.2 million euros, and that will be destined to the expansion of the provincial museum.

However, this purchase agreement does not include the movable assets that still remain in the covento: 4 altarpieces, a pulpit, the choir stalls, and an organ, the only one that remains in the city of Pontevedra, all of them dated in the 18th century. .

The agreement gives the Poor Clares the possibility of recovering these movable property within a period of four years, during which time the Council will be in charge of their custody and maintenance. But after this time, the Council can exercise a purchase option for the amount of the appraisal, although the nuns have a different option that is very close to that of the Council.

The councilor for Urbanism, Xaquin Moreda assured that with this appraisal the penultimate chapter of the purchase of Santa Clara has been closed, only pending the final signature, which the mayor hopes can be held in October.
