The Polski Recycling Association appealed to the Polish authorities. The reason is a new complaint against Russia, which supplies the country with cheap plastic, with which local products cannot compete. Moreover, Russian exports are carried out on a truly large scale, as reports Interia edition.
Poland purchases not only finished plastic blanks, but also Russian raw materials obtained through recycling. The latter, the association added, is completely impossible to compete with.
“The availability of competitive raw materials reduces the demand for material produced in Poland obtained through processing,” the organization confirmed.
The main motivation of the organization’s leadership is that large volumes of Russian plastic “significantly complicate the possibility of recycling waste” in the country. This trend is also prompting increased fines from the EU when non-compliance with new standards is detected.
EADaily reminds that over the past few years, various steps have been taken in Europe to reduce the use of plastic. Between 2010 and 2019 the number of state programs within the framework of this initiative has tripled. In 2021, official Brussels has already banned the production and sale of single-use plastic.
The Polish association is not the first organization in Europe to find itself in a “plastic” crisis. Not long ago, the Danish company Lego Group confirmed the closure of an environmentally friendly production project that turned out to be more harmful to the environment than traditional materials.
