‘The political situation is irresponsible’

While the political leaders on which the formation revolves, Rutte, Kaag and Hoekstra, closed the door of their Hilversum consultation villa after weekend consultations led by Remkes without anything having been achieved, Lilianne Ploumen and Jesse Klaver joined Buitenhof to give their vision. .

Klaver tried to keep his optimism alive but couldn’t hide the fact that he was disappointed and worried. “The political situation is irresponsible. Parliamentary democracy is being violated. If there are six parties from which a majority government has to be formed and half of those parties are not spoken to, then something goes fundamentally wrong.” Klaver was referring to his own party GroenLinks, PvdA and ChristenUnie.

Lilianne Ploumen said that Hoekstra said to her about his party, the CDA, and cooperation with GroenLinks and PvdA: “We are not going to do that.” Without giving any substantive explanation for it.

Presenter Twan Huys wanted to know whether personal relationships stand in the way of cooperation. Klaver stated that the relationships between the three forming leaders have reached a low point “but in all honesty, that should not stand in the way. We are not here for ourselves, even if you don’t get along, you should be able to work together. We need to stop saying “I don’t like you that much.” It is not a crèche, I thought I was in the House of Representatives.”

Ploumen and Klaver stated that they are still willing to cooperate in the establishment of a majority cabinet. “Put the interests of the Netherlands first instead of just that of your own party.”

The two left-wing parties want to use the general political considerations after Budget Day to come up with their own proposals to tackle the problems. For example, the housing crisis should be solved by abolishing the landlord levy and limiting rent increases. Klaver wants a climate emergency to be declared so that there are opportunities to make and implement drastic decisions to tackle the climate crisis.

Klaver doesn’t like new elections: “Then the flanks might get bigger, but the problems won’t get any smaller.”

Rutte, Kaag and Hoekstra talk in a week further with informateur Remkes. In the meantime, it must be clear in The Hague whether intended coalition partners can find each other in the negotiations on the new budget.
