The Polish parliament has once again touched the wound of World War II

In the resolution, the Diet “calls on the government of the Federal Republic of Germany to unequivocally assume political, historical, legal and financial responsibility for all consequences caused in the Republic of Poland and to Polish citizens following the start of World War II from the Third German Reich “.

“The Sejm of the Republic of Poland declares that the properly represented Polish state has never renounced its claims against the German state”, the resolution reads. “There are no reasons, neither moral nor legal, to believe that the claims are legitimately withdrawn or prescribed.”

The mention of an “adequately represented” state suggests that the lower house considers the postwar Polish Communist government illegitimate, which may have refused reparations.
