The Polish-Lithuanian gas interconnector is operational

The 508-kilometer GIPL gas pipeline will connect Lithuania, the other Baltic states and Finland to the European Union’s gas market. The length of the pipeline is 165 kilometers in Lithuania and 343 kilometers in Poland.

Lithuanian Minister of Energy Daiņi Kreivis called this a historic day on Twitter.

Russia cut off gas supplies to Poland last week; today, for the first time in history, gas is being supplied from Lithuania to Poland via the new GIPL pipeline. Lithuania is contributing to regional energy security,” Kreivis said.

The official opening ceremony of the Polish-Lithuanian gas interconnection is scheduled for May 5.
