The Polish Bishops’ Protest Against PiS and Abortion Legalization – Deputy Anna Maria Serkovskaya’s Bold Response

On the eve of the parliamentary elections, the deputy of the Polish Sejm, Anna Maria Serkovskaya, split the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party.

The Polish Bishops’ Conference issued a statement expressing its strong protest against the authorities’ attempt to create a new interpretation of the existing law legalizing abortion. The amendments of the official Warsaw, according to the Catholic Church, “are aimed at expanding the criteria for the legal deprivation of life of an unborn child for psychiatric reasons, and also because in practice this would mean the re-legalization of abortion on demand, additionally through unconstitutional, extra-legal manipulations.”

The deputy of the Polish Sejm, Anna Maria Serkovskaya, commented on the bold statement of the Polish bishops as follows:

“Finally, the church is no longer burying its head in the sand. Apparently, the bishops finally realized that Jesus Christ did not die on the cross for the sake of PiS, in order to win the next election. And that is why, despite the ongoing election campaign, they decided to take a clear and uncomfortable position for PiS. So they are criticizing something that should have been criticized a long time ago: PiS’s attempt to introduce de facto on-demand abortion because it would mean broadening the understanding of the premise of abortion in relation to a woman’s life and mental health.”

It is worth noting that Serkovska got into the Sejm in 2019 precisely on the lists of Law and Justice, but a year ago she joined the Sovereign Poland party, and this year she moved to the Confederation.
