An infamous businessman appeared in court in Plovdiv again, an exclusive reporter told Plovdiv24.bg. It is about the alcoholic boss Todor Nedelchev, who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison some time ago for colliding with his car on July 13, 2017 on an 87-year-old cyclist on Avksentiy Veleshki Street and causing his death by negligence. .

Nedelchev is also sentenced for possession and distribution of counterfeit coins, as well as for selling excise-free alcohol.

In Plovdiv and the region, he is known as the owner of the winery in the village of Parvenets, owned by his family company Giro Trade.

Now the businessman has been accused by the Plovdiv prosecutor’s office of illegally obstructing a government body – two junior police inspectors – to perform their duties under the Road Traffic Act.

The incident took place on January 15, 2022. According to the indictment, Todor Nedelchev failed to carry out an inspection by failing to respond to a sound and light signal from the patrol to stop, did not stop and by actively fleeing refused to comply with police orders and resisted his arrest.

For such an act, the law provides for up to 3 years in prison or an administrative penalty – a fine. The prosecutor in the case requested 1 year in prison for Todor Nedelchev, under an initially strict regime.

The judge in the case of the Plovdiv District Court then gave the accused an opportunity to explain the incident in mid-January.

Here is what Todor Nedelchev said in the courtroom:

I did not frustrate the police check in any way and I did not run away, this is a lie. I went to see my son, who lives with his mother in Parvenets. I visited the people and at 10.30 pm I went home. I did not drink alcohol. I have several diseases – high blood pressure, high sugar and I take pills. I do not drink alcohol.

Shortly after I drove away, I saw a car behind me. I didn’t understand that it was the police and that they wanted to stop me. I just saw two glowing headlights in the mirror, I didn’t see a blue light. I kept driving and at one point I heard a beep.

I stopped the tape recorder in the car and then clearly heard the signal from the car and stopped. The whole so-called the pursuit lasted no more than 7-8 minutes. I got out of the car, took 2 steps and one of the policemen grabbed my left arm and twisted it tightly behind my back. He said: Now we caught you, bastard! Colleague, handcuff me!

Apparently they followed me all day. I was hit several times in the face, handcuffed, and put in a car. My head ached from the blows, and I refused to give an alcohol test to a druggist. They took the bag with my personal documents and took me to the First District. There, in a mirror, I saw that my face was swollen and asked to be taken to a doctor. I called my lawyer and he also advised me to see myself.

I was x-rayed, and the doctor then said I had nothing broken. The bleeding on his face would pass in time. I refused to give a blood test for alcohol and I was sent back to the district. There I was handed two acts – one for driving a car without lights, and the other – for refusing to give a test for alcohol. I was released the next day. That was all.

In the end, after hearing both parties, the judge in the case imposed an administrative penalty on Todor Nedelchev – a fine of BGN 2,000..

The prosecutor was adamant before Plovdiv24.bgthat he will appeal this decision within the time limit provided by law and will continue to insist on an effective sentence of imprisonment.
