It is not the first time that Cristiano Ronaldo reacts badly to a defeat, but this time the police have decided to investigate the Manchester United striker, as published The Guardian, after last Saturday he hit the mobile phone of a 14-year-old Everton fan on his way to the locker room tunnel. An incident that was recorded on video by another fan and for which the 37-year-old Portuguese, and whom the young man’s mother accuses of assault, apologized the next day.
In the images broadcast on the internet, the striker can be seen heading towards the changing room tunnel at the Goodison Park stadium after his team, Manchester United, was defeated 1-0 by Everton. At a certain moment, the former Real Madrid player stops and slaps what was later found to be the mobile phone of the young man in question. But the story has not stopped there. Now the mother accuses the soccer star of assaulting the minor and the Merseyside County Police have decided to open an investigation into the matter to clarify what happened. “As the players were leaving the field at 2:30 p.m., it was reported that a child was assaulted by one of the visiting team members as they were leaving the field. Investigations are ongoing and officers are currently working with Everton Football Club to review CCTV footage and are conducting extensive investigations among witnesses to establish whether a crime has been committed,” a spokesperson said.
As a result of what happened, the NGO Save the children, one of the most important in the protection of children, has made the decision to distance itself from Ronaldo, through a statement revealed by the British newspaper The Sun. In the letter, the non-profit organization makes it clear that it has not worked with the footballer “since July 2018”, after three years of collaboration, and that “he is no longer an ambassador”. In addition to having collaborated with Save the children, the Portuguese is an ambassador for UNICEF Portugal, although in this case the NGO has not clarified whether he will maintain the link with the player.
Just a few hours after what happened, Ronaldo has had to apologize for his reaction and has done so through a post on Instagram in which he assures that “it is never easy to deal with emotions in difficult times” and invites the follower in issue to watch a game at Old Trafford “as a show of fair play and sportsmanship”. “We always have to be respectful, patient and set an example for all the young people who love the beautiful game. I would like to apologize for my outburst, ”says the Portuguese before his billions of followers on the social network.
Completely apart from the controversy, Georgina Rodríguez, Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner, shared this weekend the images of the couple’s three young children on their first day of cinema. The influence posed with Alana, Eva and Mateo, just over a month before giving birth to twins. A pregnancy that will be Rodríguez’s second with the soccer player, after 4-year-old Alana Martina came into the world in November 2017, and just a few months after Ronaldo became a father by surrogacy of Eva and Mateo.
