The police reported the incident at 01.33 on Friday night.
– We received several phone calls about a person who threatened with either an ax or a hammer, some said one and some said the other. The person in question drove and stopped cars and ran after the cars with this ax or hammer, says operations manager Anne Meyer in the South-East police district to TV 2.
The police quickly rushed to the scene with large resources.
– When the police arrived at the scene, the person in question did not inform the police, and thus there was a threatening situation against the police. Therefore, we chose to fire a warning shot, says the operations manager.
The warning shot made the situation resolve.
– Then the person lay down on the ground and the police got control of the situation, Meyer says.
She states that no one was physically injured during the incident, which was over in a short time.
Meyer tells NTB that the arrested person is a man in his 80s. He will now be taken care of by the health service.
Police are asking witnesses who have seen or filmed the incident to get in touch.
