The Police Did Not Find Unlawful Actions at the Rizieq Billboard

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Police found no element of unlawful or criminal offenses in the narratives of a number of billboards of the Islamic Defenders Front (REIT) Rizieq Shihab in a number of regions.

Hundreds of billboards calling the people to carry out a moral revolution were scattered in several points in Jakarta. The billboards were lowered by a joint team of TNI / Polri and Satpol PP because they were deemed to have violated the rules.

“What was the criminal incident? Everything came from there. Use the criminal incident first, or was there an act against the law? Is there a report, or not?” said Head of Public Information Bureau (Karo Penmas) Police Brigadier General Awi Setiyono told reporters, Thursday (26/11).

He explained that law enforcement officers have a number of binding rules in handling a case. Where, there are a number of offenses that must be fulfilled before investigating a particular case.

In this case, said Awi, his party is guided by the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and the Criminal Code (KUHP), as well as several other regulations.

“The police work as law enforcers, we also have rules,” he said.

However, Awi said that his party would still help Satpol PP if they found violations of local regulations in the installation of billboards in Jakarta.

He explained that each institution already has its respective main duties and functions so that it requires coordination between institutions.

“We are proportional with regard to the problems of installing banners,” he said.

“It needs to be underlined that the control of the banners is regulated in the regional regulations of each region. Whose law enforcer is Satpol PP,” he added.

Previously, the Head of Information for the Regional Military Command, Lieutenant Colonel Arh Herwin Budi Saputra, considered the banner with the picture of Rizieq Shihab to contain the meaning of provocation.

At least, the Kodam noted that there were around 900 banners bearing the image of Rizieq that were lowered by TNI soldiers together with joint apparatus during the last two months.

“What is wrong with Indonesia until there is a moral revolution. It contains provocation,” he said, Monday (23/11).
