Neighboring Poland is currently grappling with a scandal of gigantic proportions, which most likely also affects the Czech Republic, or rather local consumers.
Chickens are brought to us in bulk
It turned out that due to the fraud of one company, feeding chickens was very harmful. This is because he sold feed mixes to breeders that contained technical oils and lubricants, which is totally unacceptable. In addition to being very harmful to the chickens themselves, it can also affect the health of the people who consume such meat.
And there may be quite a large number of them on the Czech market. Given the scale of the case in Poland, the contaminated meat is likely to have reached us as well. Czechia is highly dependent on Poland for the import of chickens. About fifty percent of the chickens sold domestically come from a neighboring country. The Food Chamber has therefore already asked for stricter controls on meat from Poland.
Furthermore, Czech food producers have pointed out that food from Poland is often of insufficient quality and may be defective. They pointed out that already last year the Polish Supreme Audit Office published an alarming report on the numerous incidents that occurred in the food industry. Food workers also recalled a ten-year case in which technical salt was used to make food in a neighboring country.
It took two years
Unfortunately, the last case was resolved with a long delay, which could have caused considerable damage. Problematic fats and oils for poultry feed were found to have been imported into Poland since January 2020.
Chickens have been fed this way in Poland for almost two years. At the same time, very harmful dioxins were also recorded in the mentioned fats. Rather it has not been revealed at what levels.
However, this is further proof that cheap food ultimately comes at a price we may not like at all.
