On one of the Polish newsgroups about Tesla Models 3 there is an entry in which the user complains about the big stench in the car. To the author’s surprise, others also admitted that they had the smell of a “dead rat”. It turns out that the problem is global, known for years, and yet Elon Musk did not make sure to solve it.
Half a year ago, Mr. Wojtek picked up the new Tesla Model 3, but after two months there was a stench in the car. As he describes himself, the smell of a “dead rat” can be felt every time it rains. It quickly turned out that a lot of people have a similar problem. “The car from March this year, the smells have been appearing since July” – Mr. Damian complains. “I have exactly the same – a car from March” – confirms Mr. Robert.
Why does the Tesla Model 3 smell?
Tesla’s customers began to refer the matter to the Polish service of the American manufacturer. There, they were to receive an offer to replace cabin filters and clean air conditioning for PLN 830 net. It is impossible to do this under warranty as it is an add-on service according to Tesla. – writes Mr. Igor.
A lot of people, however, advise you to replace the cabin filters yourself. There is even a video guide on how to do it on YouTube (video below). Many people reported that they felt an immediate improvement. Some people suspect that the filters get wet and rot when imported, and that the smell intensifies under certain weather conditions.
Nothing new
When trying to search for information, since anyone reports such problems, you can dig to materials from 3 years ago. It appears that Elon Musk has done nothing since at least 2019 to eliminate this smelly problem. There are reports that in the United States, Tesla performs air conditioning cleaning for free. There it is treated as a warranty repair because it is supposed to be a design defect.
Unfortunately, it will probably remain so, because Elon Musk only notices that sales are constantly growing. In 2021, the Tesla Model 3 has a good chance of becoming the first electric car with a battery in the history of the European Union, which will sell over 100,000 within 12 months. copies.
