Leonardo: episodes, episodes and other curiosities about fiction
The story of Leonardo develops in four episodes, for a total of eight episodes, to tell the genius and the complex and enigmatic personality of the famous visionary artist who still remains a compelling secret today. The intent of the series is to unravel the mystery of one of the most fascinating characters in history. We all know his works of art, but his character is still unknown. What moved his infinite imagination? What travail did his greatest creations hide? Who was the mysterious woman who inspired his lost masterpiece, Leda with the Swan, of which only copies with enigmatic symbology remain? Leonardo was the illegitimate son of a notary, Piero Da Vinci.
Not recognized by his father and abandoned by his mother, the child was entrusted to his paternal grandparents who raised him in very harsh conditions. Observing nature became for Leonardo the only possible escape. The loneliness imposed on him as a child, once an adult, becomes a requirement: the indispensable condition to pursue and satisfy his curiosity. He used art to make works that glorified God and science to create weapons, maps, and engineering works that reinforced the power of brutal tyrants. No sacrifice was too great, but no result was ever enough.
He created masterpieces such as theLast Supper, but many other works remained incomplete, because they did not reach, according to his very strict judgment, the impossible goals that Leonardo he had imposed on himself. The series begins with Leonardo in his early twenties; works as an apprentice in the workshop of Andrea Del Verrocchio in Florence, where he meets Caterina Da Cremona posing as a model. Each episode focuses on one of Leonardo’s works, some rooted in collective memory, others less known to the general public: not only paintings, but also inventions, war machines, large bronze sculptures. In each episode the story that lies behind each work is revealed to tell the close dialogue that is established between this, the intellectual formation of a great artist and the complexity of a man as he was Leonardo.
Each episode will highlight the relationship between life and work of art, intellectual training and human complexity of a great artist like Leonardo. Leonardo reveals for the first time the mystery of the man hidden behind the genius. It is the story of how the greatest artist the world has ever known discovers that there is something more important than art: the price of genius.
