The plea of the mother of the Walayar girls that the court should supervise the CBI investigation Death of girls in Walayar Rape: Mother’s plea that the court supervise the CBI investigation

Kochi: The mother’s petition in the High Court demanding that the court oversee the CBI investigation into the incident where the minor Dalit girls who were raped in Walayar were later found dead. In the petition, it is demanded to investigate the mafia connection of copying and spreading the nude pictures of children and to give instructions to investigate the possibility of murder.

A 13-year-old girl was found hanging on January 13, 2014 and a nine-year-old girl on March 4, 2014. Subsequently, six cases were registered against Valiya Madhu, Cheriya Madhu, Shibu and Pradeep. The case was that the girls had committed suicide.

On October 25, 2019, the Palakkad POCSO Court acquitted the accused including Valiya Madhu. On January 6, 2021, the High Court quashed the trial court verdict acquitting the accused in the petitions filed by the government and the girls’ mother against this. The POCSO also directed the court to conduct a retrial and allow further investigation if requested by the prosecution. Meanwhile, Pradeep committed suicide.

Later, on a petition filed by the girls’ mother, the High Court ordered the CBI to conduct further investigation. The trial court rejected the CBI report last August and re-ordered the investigation. However, the mother again approached the High Court alleging that the investigation was not being conducted efficiently due to someone’s influence. It has also been demanded to investigate the death of accused Pradeep and John Praveen who was under suspicion.
