The PlayStation 5 reaches one million copies sold in Japan

A PlayStation 5 the hype around is not going away, and in just one year it has reached another milestone, this time in Japan.

As for the Japanese market, there has been some pessimism recently about the console of Sony and especially Microsoft. Due to the dominance of mobile games and the Nintendo Switch there, Sony is trying to focus more on Western markets. Some fans assume that Sony no longer cares as much about the Japanese market as it used to.

Still, there seems to be steam left in the Japanese market, as after forty-three weeks, even with massive problems with Covid and deficiencies, one million units will be sold faster than the PlayStation 4 in 2014. For the PlayStation 4, it took one million pieces to reach January 2015, and that was almost a year later (without COVID and chip shortage).

As of September 5, 1,012,656 units of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s next-generation console had been sold in Japan – 847,421 units of the standard model and 165,235 units of the Digital Edition. Last week’s sales were 15,580 and 1,495, respectively.
The best-selling game is Resident Evil Village (released May 8, 2021), with more than 67,000 copies sold.

Famitsu data provided these numbers, and hopefully as the chip shortage and Covid end in a year or two, the PlayStation 5 will run out even faster over time,
