The playoff tree in the European Championships is ready – so Sweden can reach a possible final

Sweden will play the round of 16 on June 29, against Ukraine. If Sweden moves on from that match, it is now clear which Sweden will have to face in a possible quarter-final and onwards.

The Swedish joy was total yesterday (Wednesday) when Sweden salvaged the group victory in St. Petersburg. Viktor Claesson decided the match during the last minutes of overtime, and Janne Andersson could proudly and movedly express after the match that the Swedish players were warriors.

With the group victory, Sweden had to face Ukraine. It gives Sweden first and foremost one of the EC’s group threes in the round of 16, and not a group two or group one. But an important detail is that Sweden can rest two days extra compared to if it had come in third place in Group E, something that can be advantageous.

The playoff tree for the entire European Championship is now clear. If Sweden wins its round of 16 against Ukraine, they will face England or Germany in Rome. Then follow several scenarios, where Sweden can, among other things, face Denmark in a possible semifinal and so on. Below we go through all the potential outputs.

Who can Sweden face in a quarter-final?

If Sweden succeeds in beating Ukraine on June 29, Sweden will have two potential opponents in a quarter-final. Sweden will, in the event of a win, face Germany or England. The two bastards line up in a real classic meeting at Wembley just three hours before Sweden’s kick-off. In Sweden’s match on June 29, we will thus have just found out which country of Germany or England has advanced to the quarterfinals, and thus will face Ukraine or Sweden.

Opponents in a potential quarter-final:
Germany / England

Who can Sweden face in a semifinal?

If Sweden succeeds in advancing to the semi-finals, then they should have beaten Ukraine in the round of 16, then Germany or England in their quarter-finals. Then four potential oppositions await Sweden. All semi-finals will be played at Wembley in London. If Sweden manages to get there, you can meet Denmark in a Scandinavian derby, among other things. In such cases, this presupposes that Denmark has won its quarter-final against Wales and the quarter-final against the Netherlands or the Czech Republic in the next stage. The Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Wales are the other three potential opponents in a semi-final for Sweden.
