January 2018. Tom Skinner plays again Lifetime (1965) at the Jazz Cafe, London, commissioned by the club. He himself would never have thought of Tony Williams’ first album (drummer of Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock), of which he still has a copy at home. Listening to it again, he sees a space open to reinterpretation. So he rearranges it. A month later, for Played Twice, a fixture at Brilliant Corners, a Japanese restaurant for audiophiles in Dalston, a borough of London, Tom Skinner does it again: after a public audition of the album Lifetime, the group led by the drummer improvises a response to the record this time. Something happens that day. So much so that Tom Skinner decides to record an album with these same musicians.
