The play “Sunday in Sodom” wins the Critics’ Prize

The Quebec section of the Quebec Association of Theater Critics (AQCT) revealed the winners of the Critics’ Awards on Monday. The room Sunday in Sodom stood out by receiving awards in three categories.

Written by Canadian Jordan Tannahill and translated by Olivier Sylvestre, Sunday in Sodom was awarded the prize for best show. This production of Les Écornifleuses, presented at Périscope last March, is a feminist rereading of the story from Genesis describing the wrath of God which will lead to the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Jocelyn Pelletier won the prize for best direction for the same show. Sophie Dion won the prize for best performance for her role which “brought together the entire story with her single voice”, reported our collaborator Simon Lambert in his review of the work.

Juan Arango was also awarded an interpretation prize for his work in You’re talking to me ?which he wrote himself. The play presented at Premier Acte was directed by Christian Fortin.

The autobiographical monologue Thanks for comingby Gabriel Morin, was crowned best original text. This work of autofiction addresses the themes of suicide and mental health with “humor and lucidity”, writes the Périscope Theater.

The set design by Ariane Sauvé and the costumes by Erica Schmitz were also rewarded by the AQCT, which awarded them the prize for best design for Hosanna or the Scheherazade of the poorpresented at Trident and written by Michel Tremblay.

Youth theater is not left out.Draw in the margins. Stand-up poem for part-time ghostby Carolanne Foucher, won top honors in the category of best show for young audiences. The show directed by Olivier Normand and produced by Nuages ​​en pants was presented at the Les gros becs theater.

The Quebec Association of Theater Critics will reveal the winners of its Montreal section on December 16.
