The Platinum Awards celebrate Ibero-American production

Just over six months later, Madrid is once again dressed up to celebrate Ibero-American audiovisual creation at the ninth edition of the Platino Awards. The eyes will be on the Spanish film “El Buen Patron”, with 11 nominations in 16 film categories, and the Argentine series “El Reino”, with options to be crowned in the six possible sections.

In addition to exposing the good health of the audiovisual sector, the award ceremony, conducted by the Spanish actor Miguel Ángel Muñoz — who is up for a prize for best documentary for “100 days with Tata” — and the Argentine singer and actress Lali, will serve to expose music on both sides of the Atlantic.

Puerto Rican Kany García; Pedro Fernández, one of the best-known voices of Mexican song; the Spanish singer-songwriter Rozalén, the Canarian singer Nia and Lali herself will be in charge of the musical animation of an evening in which the actors Álvaro Morte, Cecilia Suárez, Paco León, Rossy de Palma and Ernesto Alterio, among others, will take to the stage of the Municipal Palace to deliver awards.

After being crowned at the Goya Awards, Fernando León de Aranoa’s “El Buen Patron” will compete for the Platinum Award for Best Ibero-American Fiction Film with two old acquaintances, the Spanish “Maixabel” by Icíar Bollaín and “Madres Parallels” by Pedro Almodóvar, in addition to the Mexican “Night of Fire” by Tatiana Huezo. Its directors will also compete for the award for best director.

In the television section, “The Kingdom”, a political thriller produced by Netflix, could win six statuettes, including in the four acting categories. The streaming platform has cast other of its two great Latin American bets in the competition for the award for best miniseries or teleseries: “Luis Miguel: The series” and “Narcos: Mexico”. The list is completed by the Chilean “Isabel”, about the writer Isabel Allende.

In a ceremony that, according to its organizers, promises surprises, one thing is certain: the Madrid actress Carmen Maura will take over from the Mexican Diego Luna by receiving the Honor Award for a career spanning more than five decades almost inevitably linked, in some sections, to particular universe created by Almodóvar in his films.

The Platinum Awards ceremony, scheduled for 10:00 pm in Madrid (2000 GMT), can be seen live on RTVE Play in Spain and TNT in Latin America.
