This project arose in Meridiano V, within the framework of the neighborhood assemblies of 2001. The celebration for this anniversary begins on Saturday 26 with guests: the Berisso Community Theater group.
The platform squatters arises in the middle of 2003 in the Meridiano V neighborhood, specifically in the abandoned railway station that today is the Provincial Station Cultural Center.
“The community theater had a furor in 2001, it arises from the neighborhood assemblies. It is an Argentine phenomenon. The first community theater group to appear is 40 years ago, which is Catalina Sur de La Boca. They arise with democracy. Its members began to appear in the Malvinas de La Boca square and the police chased them away. Then, the rage was in 2001 because there was a great need to go out and express themselves. Many groups, like ours, were born at that time”, account Emilia Iacovinoactress and member of The platform squatters.
Currently, there is a community theater network made up of more than 50 groups throughout the national territory. “They are projects strongly rooted in memory. The theater stands on the memory and history of each place, of each community, to tell its truth. That is why the validity of community theater is total”, add in dialog with False Modesty.
The squatters arises in a space abandoned by the State: the tracks of the Provincial Station, at 17 and 71, and in alliance with the neighbors of the neighborhood. “When the one on stage is a neighbor, someone who did not dedicate his life to training as a playwright, musician, costume designer -because we do everything- what happens is very strong”, points Emilia. “We have 5 plays done in these 20 years and when we tell the story of the railway, people are moved and feel reflected. They are part of the ritual and ceremony of the theater”add.
The celebrations for the 20 years begin this Saturday the 26th at 3:00 p.m. with a show for the cap and a guest group: The Berisso Community Theater. They will present the work “Believe or burst”, set in New York street. The rest of the programming It will be published on the social networks of Los okupas.
