The Platekran Landscape Exhibition by Đirts Boronovskis

During the artist’s childhood, there were many cinemas in Riga, it was one of the most popular entertainments. One cinema stood out among them – Palladium, because it was a widescreen movie theater. The image on the screen was so huge that you had to turn your head from side to side in order to fully perceive it, especially if you were unlucky and had to sit in the first rows.

It is similar in nature, when a person is overwhelmed by the grandeur of the surrounding landscape. Technologies are evolving and offer both panoramic and wide-angle photo capture options. But how to embody this feeling of the infinite landscape in a work of art? As a rule, artists do not particularly worry about it, as much as fits into the canvas, that is how they depict it. Girts is one of those rare landscapers who looks for special formats and tries to put this magical feeling of the infinity of the landscape, this special mood in his works completely. So that the viewer’s breath is taken away.

The author’s main theme is the depiction of the moods of nature and the reflections of the human soul created by them. Girts looks for them in seasons, lighting, naturally formed textures. He paints fog, haze, waters, sunset, meadow – simply a peaceful mood. The artist does not paint the sea – because it is constantly moving, also the rocks – because in nature they are solid, but not always in paintings; Girts does not paint the moon either. This is not painting, it is not connected with denial, but with self-criticism – will I be able to do it, will I come out convincingly enough? The artist creates his works thinking about the viewer; he is motivated by both his own growth and evaluation from the outside.
