In that position, this gas giant planet will be about 590 million kilometers from Earth, while at its furthest position, Jupiter is about 960 million kilometers from Earth.

The giant planet will be in an opposite position to Jupiter or in an astronomical environment known as the opposition SpaceTuesday 20 September 2022.

Opposition is common for Jupiter, which occurs every 13 months, and the planet and Earth come close together about once a year.

The view of the Earth between the sun and Jupiter rarely coincides with the closest approach of the larger planet to our planet, known as perigee.

But on this occasion, the opposition took place on September 26 and the closest approach was on September 25.

As a result, the gas giant planet will become very bright and large in the sky. Jupiter should be in prime position for sky observers with binoculars or small telescopes for several days around the two milestones.
