The plane with the players of the Swedish Gothenburg made an emergency landing at Copenhagen airport, as the pilot learned about a possible explosion threat of 30 soccer balls in the luggage compartment, informs Aftonbladet, whose journalist was on board.
The team was heading to a training camp in Spanish Torrevieja. After 30-40 minutes of flight, the aircraft commander reported that he had a “strange announcement”: “We became aware that we had about 30 inflated balls on board. Due to the danger of their explosion, we need to land in Copenhagen.
According to the crew, after departure, they were contacted by employees of the Gothenburg airport and said that they forgot to warn about the balls, assuming that they were inflated.
According to the pilot, the stop in the Danish capital should have taken about half an hour to blow off the balls, he also apologized for the inconvenience.
After landing, it turned out that the balls were still blown away.
The club said they blew off all the balls before departure, the plane was eventually landed due to a false alarm, but this was solely the decision of the airline and the crew, so they are not waiting for compensation claims.
Gothenburg finished eighth in the Swedish league in 2022.
