The plane was on its way to a gate at Terminal 5 at John F. Kennedy Airport at approximately 8:50 pm Saturday evening (local time) when the lithium battery in a passenger’s laptop caught fire and caused an “emergency condition”. smoke” in the cabin, FAA, Port Authority and JetBlue officials said.
The fire was quickly put out by the crew. The JetBlue plane came from Barbados.
67 people on board the Airbus A320 were taken to safety via an emergency slide and another 60 people left the plane in the normal way, said the responsible New York port authority. Seven passengers suffered minor injuries, including smoke inhalation and bruised elbows, according to the Daily News.
