Shooting stars are seen whenever one of this debris collides with Earth’s atmosphere, usually burning up at an altitude of about 70 to 100 km.
On certain days of the year, the Earth’s orbit passes through a very dense stream, associated with comets or asteroids that have released large amounts of solid material into space and cause the annual meteor shower.
Such rains repeat annually, each time the Earth passes a certain point in its orbit where it crosses a certain stream of material.
