Two pilots warned of machine trouble just before they crashed outside Hawaii on Friday, reports AP.
– We have lost one engine and come straight to the airport, said one pilot.
– We will need the fire service. There is a chance that we will lose the other engine as well, it is very hot. We have very low speed, the pilot continued.
The pilots then asked if there was an airport closer to Honolulu.
After a long silence, the control room asked if the pilots were still there. Then there was no answer.
The crash in the Pacific Ocean
– It does not look good out there, said one of the pilots just before the plane hit the sea surface.
Both pilots were seriously injured in the accident. An hour later, rescue crews found both people in the water, who clung to wreckage and cargo.
“One was on the tail of the plane and the other clung to some packages,” Coast Guard Chief Karin Evelyn told AP.
When a rescue helicopter arrived at the scene of the accident, the incident took another dramatic turn.
The plane began to sink, so the person on the tail ended up in the water.
To the hospital
Fortunately, the rescue operation ended successfully. Both pilots were rescued from the water and transported to hospital, reports AP.
Spokesmen for Queen’s Medical Center said a 58-year-old was critically injured, according to Hawaii News Now.
The other pilot, a 50-year-old, was seriously injured, the TV station reports.
