The pier bridge in Nusa Penida collapses, 35 tourists dive into the sea

The bridge connecting the boat to the pontoon dock at Banjar Nyuh Harbour, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, Bali, collapsed, went viral on social media. As a result, 35 tourists were thrown overboard.

The bridge at Banjar Nyuh port, Nusa Penida district collapsed on Thursday (12/15/2022) at around 4:45pm WITA. The bridge from the wharf to the pontoon collapsed on suspicion of being overloaded.

The incident started when the Semabu Hills boat carrying Foreign Nationals (WNA) passengers was about to depart for Sanur Port, Denpasar. At that time there were about 35 tourists waiting on the deck at the same time to get on the boat.

Suddenly the connecting bridge between the main pier and the pontoon collapsed. The passengers who were on it practically also fell.

“Because about 35 passengers tried to cross the connecting bridge at the same time, the contours of the bridge did not allow many to pass. The bridge collapsed, the passengers scattered,” explained Iptu Agus Widiono, public relations chief of the Klungkung Police, as reported. by detikBali, Friday (16/12/2022) ).

Several passengers panicked but managed to escape. Only a few passengers sustained minor injuries. There were no fatalities in that crash.
