The portrait of Lea Noor Golis (13) as a child bride will be auctioned off during this year’s TV campaign “Children, not brides”, where the contributions go to Plan International Norway’s work against child marriage.

The work “The Blood Of Innocentia – Blue Morpho” is made by photographer Arne Beck and street artist AFK.

– I hope the picture can contribute to change for those who are actually married off and that more people see the problems that happen, Golis says.

She explains that she did not know much about child marriage before, but that she has learned a lot during the process.

– This happens to girls who are as old as me and who just want to live a normal life. They want a childhood and an upbringing where they go to school and be with friends.

Bid of 100,000 kroner

Natalia Golis is the county mayor and chair of the County Action Committee for Western Norway. She is also the mother of Lea.

Together they will transport the picture to Oslo on the night train on Saturday night.

– We found out that it was the fastest and safest way over the mountain. We’ll see what happens when we arrive at the platform. The picture is bigger than I thought, says Natalia.

She was the one who took the initiative for the collaboration between Beck and AFK.

– Child marriage is also something that happens in Norway today. Children go on holiday to different home countries, without returning. Then it is still not so far from children and young people here at home as well.

On Thursday, it was possible to start bidding on the picture. The latest bid is currently NOK 100,000.

On Sunday, it will be exhibited in NRK’s studio.

– People I have talked to have a very strong belief that the little we do can have a big effect in the world, and I am happy about that. The TV campaign can help change the world, says Natalia.

AFK and Arne Beck have collaborated on the picture that will be auctioned off during this year’s TV campaign on Sunday. Left: assistant Håkon Rybakken, photographer Arne Beck and county mayor Natalia A. Golis.

– A lot of symbolism

Together with street artist AFK, Arne Beck has worked with the image since before the summer holidays.

He explains that they have spent a lot of time figuring out how to make something ugly in a nice way.

– The picture gives an intense first impression, but when you go deeper into the picture and notice the details, you see that there is also hope, he says.
