This week, The Picnic Theatre Company is transforming the historic Dupont Underground into a vibrant hub of creativity and social interaction, bringing its unique combination of theater and venue-specific partying to one of the most intriguing venues in Washington, DC. Taking place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (11/1-11/3), this innovative event promises to be a captivating fusion of original theater, classic plays and a lively cocktail party.
The work is a parody of The Day the Earth Stood Still! In the classic 1950s movie, a UFO lands in Washington DC on the National Mall, with a message and an ultimatum for the White House and the people of Earth that forces the world to deal with the deepest existential choice possible. The Picnic Theater Company imagines what happens the day after, as superpowers and developing nations, corporations, activists and religious movements fight to determine Earth’s response. How will they react? At the end of the play the audience chooses the fate of humanity!
The festivities begin at 6 pm with a cocktail hour, setting the stage for the theatrical performance that begins at 7 pm. Attendees are invited to immerse themselves in the arts while enjoying refreshing drinks, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The Picnic Theater Company has made a name for itself by hosting cocktail performances and garden parties at some of the city’s most beautiful and exciting venues, making this event at Dupont Underground a perfect addition to your repertoire.
Additionally, the company is dedicated to giving back to the community, and proceeds from this event will be donated to Dupont Underground, supporting its mission to promote various forms of art and culture.
