The Picasso Museum Málaga (MPM) received a total of 641,216 visits in 2022, a figure that confirms the recovery of normality and comes very close to the more than 700,000 visitors that the art gallery received in 2019, just before the start of the pandemic. and a record number of visitors to date.
This was indicated by the art gallery in a statement, underlining that educational and cultural work “plays a fundamental role in the Museo Picasso Málaga”.
Of the total number of visitors, nearly 23,700 people participated in educational and cultural activities in the last year, including the accessibility projects developed by the art gallery with the collaboration of the Fundación la Caixa.
“In addition, there has been a large number of people who have participated in conferences, seminars, screenings, talks, round tables, chamber music, jazz or cinema organized by the art gallery,” emphasized by the MPM.
The extraordinary and prolific work of Picasso, the quality of its exhibition programme, its attractive and varied cultural offer and the diversity of its educational programme, are the elements which confirm the constant growth trend of the museum, consolidating its recognition and prestige . and international.
PICASSO TO 2023
On October 27, 2023, the Picasso Museum Málaga will celebrate its 20th anniversary. With more than eight million visitors and an always lively programming, the MPM has been a decisive point of reference and a valid incentive for cultural tourism and for the enhancement of the socio-economic fabric of Picasso’s birthplace.
The 20th anniversary of the museum will coincide with the events organized for the ‘Picasso Celebration 1973-2023’, a major international event organized for the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death.
MPM will actively participate in this program with two exhibitions. On the one hand, the exhibition ‘Picasso: matter and body’, curated by Carmen Gimnez, which can be visited from 9 May to 10 September next year; and, on the other, “El eco de Picasso”, curated by Eric Troncy, which will be offered from October 3, 2023 to March 24, 2024.
At the same time, the itinerary of the museum’s permanent collection is renewed with two proposals of ‘Dialogues’ curated by Michael FitzGerald and the Almine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso Foundation for Art (FABA).
The ‘Picasso Celebration 1973-2023’ program is promoted by the Spanish National Commission for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the artist’s death and by the Picasso National Museum-Paris, under the coordination of the binational commission that brings together the cultural and diplomatic administrations of Spain and France and with the support of Telefónica, partner company of the event in Spain.
