The pianist Vadym Khodolenco makes his debut with the OV at the Teatro Principal with Rachmaninov’s Concert No. 1

This program will mark the debut of the Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko with the Valencian symphonic line-up and with the Palau de la Música subscription. He replaces the concert performer Nelson Freire, who canceled his performance due to mobility restrictions due to the health regulations imposed by the pandemic, they recall from the municipal auditorium.

In this way, Kholodenko joins other musicians and singers who make their debut with the Valencian symphonic line-up this season, such as the pianist Valentina Lisitsa, the viola David Fons, the saxophonist Xelo Giner, the soprano Marina Monzó and the cellist David Apellániz, as well such as directors Christoph Eschenbach, Pavel Baleff, Gergely Madaras, Lucía Marín, Christian Vásquez and Rune Bergmann.

In this sense, the president of the Palau de la Música, Gloria Tello, highlighted: “We always try to combine the presence of soloists and regular guest conductors, with high-quality debuts and with the marked prominence of our Orchestra musicians”.

For his part, the director of the Palau, Vicent Ros, has remarked “the rapid management to replace the international artists who cancel in these times of pandemic, without undergoing substantial changes in the programs.”

MUSICALITY, COLORFUL AND VIRTUOSISM

In tomorrow’s program, the audience will be able to hear Rachmaninov’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in F sharp minor, which will be performed by Kholodenko. It is a youth work by the Russian composer, which he later revised and is full of musicality, color and virtuosity.

Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 4, considered one of the most important and transcendent symphonic pages in the history of music, completes the program.

Vadym Kholodenko was first prize winner at the Van Cliburn Competition in 2013. Also first prize winner at the Schubert, Dortmund and Sendai competitions. He has played under the direction of Gergiev, Slatkin, Fedoseyev, Karabits, Harth-Bedoya, Zukerman, Bashmet, Spivakov, Marin and Yamada. In 2013 he was Artist in Residence at the Mariinsky Theater, where Gergiev named him “Artist of the Month” and he recently performed with Gergiev in Paris, Luxembourg and Saint Petersburg.
