New York Fashion Week plans to once again host physical catwalks in its next edition, which takes place Sept. 8-12, the U.S. fashion union CFDA said on Monday.

This return of events in public will be in accordance with the sanitary rules in force in New York State, said the CFDA, which expects some houses to continue to opt for an online presentation.

Almost all of the last two Fashion Weeks, in September and February, were held virtually, with a few rare designers such as Christian Siriano or Rebecca Minkoff organizing shows or presentations in person.

During these two editions, the CFDA had encouraged creators to favor the virtual face-to-face, to avoid the risk of contagion linked to the coronavirus.

Encouraged by the ongoing vaccination campaign and the gradual reopening of New York City, the CFDA expects a “sustained” season that “celebrates the best of American fashion in physical and digital formats,” its chief executive said, Steven Kolb, quoted in the press release.

Rare occasion, the end of Fashion Week will correspond to the Met Gala (September 13), a flagship event of New York fashion during which designers dress celebrities of all stripes.
