The philosopher Edgar Morin celebrates his hundred years with a concert in Montpellier by the Spanish singer Paco Ibáñez

Spanish singer Paco Ibáñez celebrate the hundred years by his philosopher and sociologist friend Edgar Morin this Tuesday evening at the Opéra-Garnier in Montpellier. a free concert is organized to celebrate, too, their friendship which began in song. “I could not believe my eyes” remembers Paco Ibáñez who was in a restaurant in Paris, eight years ago, when he ran into Edgar Morin. The two men exchange a few words. “We don’t do songs about cities anymore” underlines the philosopher, that evening. Paco Ibáñez answers him by singing “In Paris” by Georges Brassens. A friendship reinforced by music is then created.

Memories of the war in Spain

Edgar Morin who was anti-fascist activist during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) is touched by Paco Ibáñez. He who was born in Barcelona and who fled Francoism with his family. When the philosopher hears his friend singing, it is with emotion that he says to him: “You are a great Spanish singer. You carry with you everything that marked me during this war.” The memories go back to the mind of the centenary: “When I was in Toulouse after the French defeat, my first friends were Spanish refugees.”

Edgar Morin and Paco Ibanez are therefore celebrating this anniversary in song this Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. at the Opéra-Garnier in Montpellier. Free entry under reservation at the Jean Vilar theater at 04 34 46 68 38.
