The Philippines Drops in Southeast Asia Rankings After 11-Year Streak

The Philippines was knocked out of the top three in Southeast Asia after 11 years in that position.

Two landslide wins over Brunei Darussalam had an influence on Indonesia’s position in the latest FIFA rankings released today. Indonesia is now ranked 145th in the world.

In the previous edition last month, Indonesia was ranked 147th. However, an additional 16.95 points was enough to lift the Red and White team’s position two steps better.

On the other hand, this month’s edition is also bad news for the Philippines. They were knocked out of the top three in Southeast Asia after being in that position since April 11 2012. The Philippines is now ranked 138th.

Meanwhile, Malaysia, which experienced a decrease of three stripes compared to last month, succeeded in overtaking the Philippines’ position. Harimau Malaya now occupies 137th position.

Overall, Vietnam, which rose one step to 94th, is still leading in Southeast Asia, followed by Thailand (112), Malaysia (137), the Philippines (138), Indonesia (145), Singapore (155), Myanmar (158), Cambodia ( 178), Laos (188), Brunei Darussalam (191), and Timor Leste (197).

While Japan is still the best in Asia. They are currently ranked 18th, followed by Iran (21st), South Korea (24th), Australia (27th), Saudi Arabia (57th).

Iraq, which is the opponent of the Indonesian national team in the 2023 Asian Cup finals and 2026 World Cup qualifiers, is in the top seven in Asia, ranked 68th, behind Qatar, which is in 61st position.

Meanwhile, the top ten in the world have not experienced any significant changes, except for a shift in position between them. Argentina is still number one in the world, followed by France, Brazil, England and Belgium.

Portugal, which was previously in eighth place, is now in sixth position. They outperformed the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Croatia.
