The Phantom of the Opera postpones its closing date in New York

While the producers of the Phantom of the Opera had announced a few weeks ago that the show would definitely bring the curtain down in February 2023we learn that the show has extended its performances through April 2023.

The New York production of The Phantom, Broadway’s longest-running show, will celebrate its 35th anniversary on January 26, 2023. When the curtain falls in April, the musical will have surpassed 13,900 performances in this city!

Following the September announcement of the show closing, ticket sales skyrocketed. Producer Cameron Mackintosh explains: “We are very pleased to see the turnout of fans at the closure announcement. We have also noticed a rejuvenation in our audience who want to see this legendary show before it closes. As a result we are delighted to ‘announce that we have reached an agreement with the Shubert Organization to extend the show for 8 weeks at the Majestic Theater.”

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber also said: “If the theater hadn’t had to close for repairs we would have continued to perform much longer. I thank everyone who made this extension possible.”

The Phantom of the Opera was created in London in 1986, where it is still performed, and is the third longest running show in the British capital.
