The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Constantinople banned three Phanar bishops from serving, reports the website of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

The Holy Synod, held on November 16-17, banned the Bishop of Troas, Vicar of the Belgian Metropolis of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Peter.

The Phanar communiqué does not indicate the reason for the ban of Bishop Peter. However, according to the website “Vima Orthodoxy”, Bishop Peter back in 2016 (a little more than a year after his consecration) refused to serve in the Patriarchate of Constantinople and left for Greece, where, with the blessing of the Metropolitan of Patras of the Greek Orthodox Church, Chrysostomos, he performed divine services in the city of Patras . He also intended to petition the Phanar to convert to the Church of Greece.

In addition, the Synod of the Church of Constantinople temporarily banned Bishop Irenaeus of Eumenia from serving as vicar of Patriarch Bartholomew. As punishment, he was sent to the Monastery of the Lady of Angels, which is located in Chania, Greece.

Also, the vicar of Patriarch Bartholomew, Bishop of Dorilee Damascus, received a temporary ban. He was sent to the Holy Trinity Monastery in Zangorolone, which is located in the same nome of Chania, in Greece.

The reason for the threat of Bishop Irinej and Bishop Damascene is not indicated.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that on July 26, 2023, the press service of the Holy Synod of the Albanian Orthodox Church stated that the new Bishop of Philomilia of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, Theophan, is “unfit for pastoral service.”
