Deputies from the ruling majority – “We continue the change” (PP), “Democratic Bulgaria” (DB) and “There is such a people” (ITN), but also from the opposition party “Vazrazhdane”, propose to lift restrictions on the use of industrial hemp, known and as industrial cannabis. This is written in a draft amendments to the Law on Control over Narcotic Substances and Precursors, BNR clarifies.
In the reasons of the petitioners it is written that Bulgaria is one of the few countries in the European Union (EU) in which the processing of the plant and the production of secondary and final products is reduced to – I quote – “intended for fiber, fodder and food seeds and seeds for sowing“.
According to them, the leading problem is the incorrect association of industrial hemp with marijuana, so the bill proposes a clear distinction between the two plants.
The petitioners point out that the removal of the restrictions would have a positive effect on both the economy and the environment.
