The last regular meeting of the Council of Ministers was held today. The “Petkov” cabinet remained working in resignation for more than a month.

From the many requests for reforms, in a little more than half a year, the rulers managed to close the special justice system.

Despite the scandals that were at the root of the collapse of the coalition, Bulgaria gave the green light to North Macedonia on its way to the EU.

After months of delay, our Recovery Plan was finally approved. According to it, we are waiting for about 11 billion BGN from Brussels. However, so far we have not received even 1 lev.

The government led by Kiril Petkov had a difficult birth. On its first day, the new cabinet was surprised with a request for a drastic increase in electricity and heating prices and imposed a moratorium. It was dropped, and from July 1, both electricity and heat are more expensive.

For the first time in the new century, the calendar year began without an operating budget. They passed the most important financial law in February and rewrote it from July.

The outgoing government had to deal with an energy, price and military crisis. And the decision whether to call the war a war or not cost the post of Minister of Defense Stefan Yanev.

Russia has stopped gas supplies to Bulgaria, and we have announced that we are renouncing the services of the Russian supplier and do not plan to hold talks with Moscow after the end of the contract, which expires this year.

The Petkov cabinet will also be remembered for the arrest of Boyko Borisov and his release after 24 hours. “No one is above the law,” announced Kiril Petkov at the time.

Although the rulers came in with a request to remove the attorney general, this never happened. The Supreme Judicial Council refused to release him.

The collapse of the coalition began with the withdrawal of Slavi Trifonov’s ministers. The overthrow of the Speaker of the Parliament Nikola Minchev turned out to be a harbinger of things to come.

GERB-SDS submitted a vote of no confidence and Kiril Petkov’s cabinet fell. Both attempts to form a new majority within the framework of the 47th National Assembly proved unsuccessful. The last negotiations failed after a leaked recording of a meeting of the parliamentary group of “Democratic Bulgaria”. “We will not make a government of hypocrisy. We will not support it. We will go to elections”, threatened the leader of “There is such a people”. In a few days, President Rumen Radev will announce when they will be held.
