The PES rose just below the fourth degree. The number of 1772 cases on Saturday affected the failure of the systems – ČT24 – Czech Television

The Ministry of Health first published the PES index on November 16, when it was at 70. Since then, it has dropped twice to 57, remaining unchanged for most days. It has now risen to 59 for the first time. It is thus just below the upper limit of the third stage of the measure. An increase of two more points would mean that after three days, the government could start negotiations on tightening measures.

If you return to the fourth grade, there would be a risk of closing down restaurants, most shops, a night curfew, and high school students would have to return to full-distance teaching.

High school students getting ready for school

At the same time, it will not be until Monday that schools will see a decline to the third level of the measure, which applies from Thursday. At the moment, pupils from special schools and the first stage of primary schools sit in the benches without any restrictions, in the second stage, including lower grammar schools, there are shifts, when half of the pupils are in school, the other half learn remotely and take turns after a week.

However, high school students are still at home and only from Monday half of them will go to school, half of the students will also be welcomed by secondary vocational schools and they will start teaching in person even in the first year of universities.

On Monday, the government will also discuss a proposal to pay one hundred percent of the salary to people in isolation due to a proven coronavirus infection. According to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES), this could help people not try to avoid testing at all costs.

The number of samples is decreasing, the addition of positive tests was affected by the outage

In recent weeks, the number of tests performed has fallen by less than half compared to the October maximum. The highest number of samples in one day reached over 47,000 on October 27, while on St. Nicholas Friday there were only 20,000 tests.

Although the number of confirmed cases is falling sharply, their share in the total number of tests is still outside acceptable values, while at the beginning of November it was close to 40 percent, now about every fifth test is positive. Last week, the situation worsened, with 24 percent of the tests performed positive on Friday.

On Thursday and Friday, the test results warned mainly that, despite the stagnant to declining total number of samples, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection increased. Whether this was also the case on Saturday is not yet clear. Although official data from the Ministry of Health from the night showed a significant improvement compared to the previous week, in the morning, the director of the IHIS, Ladislav Dušek, told Czech Television that the systems were down and that this was not a final figure.

At the regional level, the best is the Cheb district, where there are 131 infected people per hundred thousand inhabitants in the last seven days. The worst situation remains in the Havlíčkův Brod region, which has finally fallen below 500 infected per hundred thousand inhabitants per week – currently there are 485 per hundred thousand. More than 300 cases per hundred thousand inhabitants remain in the districts of Semily, Louny, Jindřichův Hradec, Pelhřimov, Kutná Hora, Chrudim, Prostějov and Opava.
