The personal data of 9 million EasyJet customers was hacked after a major cyber attack

In most cases, those responsible for the attack were able to access clients’ email addresses, but credit card data from just over 2,200 people was also recovered.

EasyJet was the victim of an exceptional cyber attack. The low-cost airline, currently weakened by the immobilization of flights due to the coronavirus pandemic, said on Tuesday May 19 that the personal data of 9 million of its customers had been hacked during an attack “highly sophisticated”.

In most cases, attackers were able to access customer email addresses and travel information, but credit card data from just over 2,200 people was also recovered , adds EasyJet.

The airline, which claims to have “no proof” that this data has been used for illegal purposes, promises to get in touch quickly with the customers concerned “to inform them of the protective measures to be taken to minimize any risk of potential phishing”.
