New Delhi: The police have arrested a man who stayed in a five-star hotel in Delhi and failed to pay a bill of Rs 23 lakh, claiming to be an employee of the royal family of Abu Dhabi. Muhammad Sharif, a native of Karnataka, was arrested. Police informed that Sharif was arrested from Dakshina Kannada on January 19.
He stayed at Leela Palace Hotel from August 1 to November 20, 2022. When he reached the hotel to take a room, Sharif presented a fake business card and UAE resident card to the hotel and told the staff that he was a resident of the UAE.
Sharif had said that he had a close relationship with a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family and was working for him. He also explained that he had come to India for official business purposes.
The bill is Rs 35 lakh including room rent and four months service charge. Out of which Sharif paid Rs 11.5 lakh. But he left the room without paying the balance. He had given a check of Rs 20 lakh to the hotel staff but the check bounced.
Then on January 14, the general manager of the hotel, Anupama Gupta, filed a complaint at the Sarojini Nagar police station. According to the complaint, he stole many items from the hotel. The police said that the investigation into the incident is in progress.
