Czech kit manufacturer Merkur sells a perfect miniature of the iconic rag. Build a metal Velorex for a few hundred and remember the past of Czechoslovak motoring.
“That’s a rag, sir. He doesn’t hurt, he polishes.’ or “I’m taking it to the dry cleaners.” are the legendary lines from the Czechoslovak comedy “Vrchní, prchni!”, which still perfectly describe the cult Velorex. It was the fake superior Dalibor Vrána, portrayed by Josef Abrhám, who turned the original tricycle into a true Czechoslovak classic admired by all socialist car enthusiasts.
The iconic Velorex has been around for more than seventy years and was created when the Stránský brothers from Moravská Třebová dared to combine the advantages of motorcycles and cars in a single road vehicle. Hadrák was originally created as a wheelchair with a leatherette cover and at the time easily available Jawa motorcycle engines with a displacement of 250 to 350 cubic centimeters.
Merkur Velorex from 295 parts
And now you can have it at home too, although unfortunately it will be missing the iconic leather jacket. In the past, the very popular metal kit brand Merkur introduced the famous Velorex to its current range of models, which you can assemble from 295 parts. The manufacturer states that the miniature measures 28 x 18 x 50 centimeters.
The new kit is also compatible with existing Merkur components, so it does not limit your creativity. Use your imagination and try to improve on the missteps of the designer of the time, or imagine how the original three-wheeled Velorex would have looked with four wheels. At least he would seem more mature.
The small Velorex from Merkur is already sold in Czech stores with a suggested retail price of CZK 599. Will you place it as a great decoration in your living room or office?
