Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly, Hidayat Nur Wahid has advised Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, to draft a regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) on asset forfeiture as the bill on asset forfeiture has not been passed in the House of Representatives (DPR-RI). Wahid believes that the Asset Forfeiture Bill should be ratified due to several financial cases, such as alleged irregular transactions worth IDR 349 tn ($23.7 bn) at a government ministry. Acknowledging the urgent need for the law, the deputy speaker advised the government to complete the draft bill for approval by the parliament or issue a government regulation in lieu of the law that can be ratified as law later.
The People’s Consultative Assembly Deputy Speaker urges President Jokowi to implement a government regulation on asset forfeiture, given the urgent need for such a law.
