It’s decided! Liptovský Mikuláš remains in the extra league, Žilina did not succeed in the playoffs

Their captain Martin Kriška definitely decided that the Liptovs retained their affiliation in the highest domestic hockey competition for the following year.

After the successful SHL final against Martin’s players, the people of Žilina started the draw with the home triumph 2: 1, but then they lost to the opponent in front of their own fans 1: 3. This was followed by 1: 4 and 2: 3 losses in Liptov and finally another home failure on Sunday evening.

According to the head coach of the “wolves” Stanislav Škorvánek, there were groundbreaking duels at the opponent’s stadium. “The third match didn’t work out for us, we were harmless there and the opponent beat us in everything. We led 2: 1 in the fourth, but then we collected twice in five minutes. Mikuláš was better at that time and managed to win.” said at a press conference after the last match in the series.

Škorvánek admitted that his charges were suffering from health problems, but he did not consider them a decisive factor. “We went to the last match and try to return the series to Mikuláš. We still wanted to fight, but it was already very difficult. We had health problems, but we do not want to argue about it. In the end, however, it was felt that the opponent had “More forces and we didn’t rule. We fought, it was tight and there was something we could do about it, but we probably didn’t get lucky enough against it,” Žilina’s coach continued, who revealed more about what they had to deal with in the cabin: “We lost two players from the power play formations, there have been more players on the infusions in the last week. That’s probably how it should have been.”

Disappointment from the unsuccessful barrage was also expressed by Žilina defender Marek Drtina. He described how the “wolves” were in terms of health. “Disappointment prevails in me, now as if there was nothing to evaluate. This series didn’t work out for us. We fought, we put everything into it, but it didn’t work out. After the first match we caught something in the cabin, we had fevers, it hit those tired bodies We were already bad after the series with Martin, fatigue played a decisive role, the forces waned terribly fast and it was difficult against such a strong opponent.

It was a difficult series against Martin. They managed to put us on our asses, but we got up and turned the series around. It cost us a lot of strength and it was recognizable in the barracks. The first match worked out for us, although the opponent had a lot of chances. Fortunately, he didn’t like it there. Still, they didn’t play for 40 days, they weren’t so playful. We got the match. We played well in the second match, but we missed the ending. We were already in St. Nicholas. We have little strength left to be successful. “ explained for the official club website.
