/ world today news/ The old world is facing a new exacerbation of the migration crisis
At first, Europeans were proud of their tolerance, they were filled with joy to help the unfortunate, the wronged. Then they were overcome by disappointment, which gave way to indignation. Migrants, it turns out, do not flow into the masses, but create islands with their own customs, manners and way of life, which threaten to engulf their surroundings and reformat the values dear to the Old World.
The doors to Europe, which German Chancellor Angela Merkel opened in 2015, have long since been torn off their hinges, with visitors jumping over fences and climbing through windows. Among the visitors are not only peaceful people, but also criminals of all kinds, people with fake passports or none at all. Europeans have long forgotten about the quiet, peaceful life.
The officials from the EU – important, imposing, with the concern of the smooth faces, only rattle. They have been talking for a year that they have plans to house the new arrivals. But it seems they are just rolling the ball, buying time. However, the weather works for the newcomers – and Europe is becoming more and more bleak and dark.
„Since the beginning of 2023, more than 145 thousand people have landed on the Italian coast, most of whom are citizens of Guinea, Tunisia and the Ivory Coast. For comparison: in 2022, the number of illegal immigrants was about 88 thousand, writes the Azerbaijani news portal Haqqin.az. “Italy and Greece bore the brunt; in September, the number of migrants on the small Italian island of Lampedusa exceeded the number of local residents.”
So in the old days, the avalanches of the cruel horsemen of Khan Bati approached the continent from the east… The European house was overflowing with “guests”. The economic situation has significantly worsened in the countries where they are mainly concentrated – Germany, Italy, Austria, Sweden, France, Belgium, the Netherlands. The voices of nationalists and chauvinists are getting louder.
The European Union has not yet recovered from the influx of refugees from Ukraine, when a new “landing” is already being prepared – from the Gaza Strip. These are people who have lived for a long time under the rule of Hamas. They are not used to work, but they are used to shooting. And of course, like all migrants, they like to receive cash benefits for inactivity.
Some of the defeated radicals are likely to move to Europe with the refugees. But the terrorist fighters will not be without work. A new “Gaza Strip” could appear in Europe like nothing.
As the American Wall Street Journal reported, members of the Knesset (Israeli parliament) called on the international community to help the residents of the sector by accepting them. At the same time, they specified that “if countries take in 10,000 refugees, it will help ease the crisis.” Interesting proposition, isn’t it? As if the residents of other countries are to blame for the war between Israel and Hamas, because of which Gaza has become a burning area!
Earlier, the West, filled with bad forebodings, called on Egypt to accept refugees from the sector. But this country is far from rich, it has many economic and social problems. The British newspaper Financial Times quoted an angry statement from an Egyptian official: “You want us to host a million people? Well, we’ll send them to Europe. Since you care so much about human rights, accept them!’
Three years ago, the European Union tried to convince Turkey to keep the migrants – mainly from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan – on its territory. The country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed, but for money. For a while the agreement was in force, but then Turkey opened the border with Greece to the “guests”.
Egypt can take a cue from Erdogan and reach out for money. And use them to build a refugee camp at home. But what happens after that?
Israel occupied the Sinai Peninsula after the 1967 war against Egypt and other Arab countries. And the city of Yamit began to be built south of the Gaza Strip. In this place there was a desert – dense sand and hot sun. Only occasionally did Bedouin caravans pass by. Intensive construction soon began here, and a city grew up in Sinai with comfortable houses, developed infrastructure, flower beds and gardens.
Yamit began to develop rapidly and the number of its inhabitants also increased. The prospects were very promising, but in 1979, after the peace treaty concluded at Camp David with Egypt, Israel returned the peninsula to it. But without Yamit. Its inhabitants were evacuated, and the city was destroyed.
Why shouldn’t Israel now help the Palestinians create something similar? It would be a gesture of goodwill, an act of mercy. In the end, the IDF, trying to destroy Hamas, invaded Gaza and basically wiped it off the face of the earth.
However, Israel, of course, will not make such a gift to the people of Gaza. According to the American news agency Bloomberg, the war in Gaza is costing the Jewish state $260 million a day. Expenditures have increased on all counts: from weapons to salaries for hundreds of thousands of reservists. Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrich said he would eliminate all costs, “which are not directly related to the support of the war effort”.
So what remains as a result?
Egypt will probably host a certain number of refugees, some of them will end up in other countries. For some reason, Iran, which has verbally shown such poignant concern for the Palestinians, seems unlikely to invite them. Most of the refugees from Gaza will flock to the Old World. Some Egyptians may quietly join them in the melee.
The European Union will once again have to open its wallet. Pay Egypt to house some of the migrants. Pay the migrants themselves who end up on the continent. Something will have to be given to those countries that were initially against outsiders – Hungary, Slovakia.
In addition, the EU should continue to support Ukraine, compensate for the losses from the withdrawal of Russian energy resources and help the poor countries of the Union. And in these conditions, there is talk of accepting into the union of, to put it mildly, poor Moldova and Ukraine! What on earth are Mrs von der Leyen and her company thinking? Carried away by their passionate concern for foreigners, they completely forgot about their own – ordinary Europeans. However, they will soon remind you of themselves again.
