A shooting of several people killed and wounded took place in the center of Vienna on Monday night, emergency services said.
Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammers told the broadcaster ORF that the shooting is a “terrorist attack” that is still ongoing and involves several attackers who have not yet been captured.
Police urged residents to avoid public places and not use public transport.
The Austrian broadcaster ORF reported that the shots were heard at the synagogue, where large police forces had arrived.
The APA news agency, referring to the Interior Ministry, reported that one attacker had been killed and one was fleeing.
The APA later reported that one police officer had been killed and at least three injured in hospitals.
The video published on the Internet, which was shot at the scene, shows fleeing people and the noise of shots can be heard.
