The Pentagon will develop and deploy new weapons in space to combat Russian and Chinese space forces in the future, writes The Washington Times.
“The Pentagon needs a joint military space capability to protect the United States, as well as to protect joint forces, allies and partners from the hostile use of space by the enemy,” the publication quoted the report of the US military department, foreign agencies wrote.
A central place in the new strategy is also given to the expansion of the possibilities of electronic warfare and defense in cyberspace, the material states.

While the US military is said to be armed with only an electronic jammer capable of interrupting signal transmission between ground stations and satellites, everything else is under development and hidden from the public.
The Pentagon’s budget for fiscal year 2024 is estimated at $33.3 billion, which is 13 percent more than last year, the material noted.
Earlier, Konstantin Vorontsov, deputy director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s non-proliferation and arms control department, said the risks of turning space into a staging ground for military action were “formed” – the US and its allies were taking steps to place weapons in space and to use outer space for non-combat operations and for defensive purposes only.
According to Vorontsov, the US does not stop trying to position space as a new arena of rivalry and conflict between countries, with Moscow and Beijing as the main opponents. He added that Russia, along with other countries, is in favor of preventing an arms race in space.
